Malta's reputation as a family holiday island was boosted last year when an American journalist placed the small Mediterranean island as one of the five safest travel destinations in the world, and a new report from the US this year confirms Malta as one of the safest vacation spots in the world.
The good news and publicity comes for Malta in a year that has seen her fortunes as a holiday spot turn around from one that had been in decline, to one that is returning to a mainstream vacation destination.
The first three months of 2007 all showed year on year improvements in the number of tourists visiting Malta.
Much of the increase in visitor numbers has come about since the Malta government reluctantly agreed to allow low cost airlines to fly from the UK and Ireland, traditionally Malta's strongest market for holidays.
Malta has enjoyed a revival in the number of British people visiting the Mediterranean holiday island since low cost flights were introduced last year.
Hotel and holiday bookings have been up for the first time in a number of years, and Malta's traditional market has rediscovered the island as a holiday destination.
Malta has always been a likely spot for the British, with nearly all Maltese speaking fluent English - and like the British the Maltese drive on the left.
Malta used to be governed by the British, until 1964 when Malta became independent.
The decision to allow the low cost flights came after some time of delay by the Maltese authorities, and was too late to stop a further decline in 2006 of visitor numbers.
Ryanair started flights from London's Luton airport in November, and from Dublin three months later. Other countries with low cost airlines have also started to fly to Malta, notably from Germany and Spain.
This year's report bears more official weight than the previous one by a travel writer, as it was compiled by the US State Department.
Commenting on Malta, the report praises the island for the non existence of organised crime, especially surprising perhaps given her proximity to mainland Italy - and closer still to notorious Sicily.
A surprise for many who have driven in Malta is that the report considers the island's roads to be safe. But this is backed up by official EU figures showing Malta has the lowest road related fatalities in the EU.
Last year's report helped to promote Malta's image as a safe destination to potential tourists considering different holiday destinations.
Malta ranked as one of the top five locations for safety in the world, according to American travel writer Laura McKenzie.
In her report Ms McKenzie said of the Mediterranean holiday island 'In Malta there is no such thing as a dark and uninviting alley, while the police force is one of the oldest in the world'.

But let me tell you that your success in life will be magnified and grow manifold if you now choose to perhaps focus a portion of your life, your actions, your thinking, your time and energy towards the benefit of fulfilment or others.
Take a moment to briefly and generally examine the situation of your life right now. Ask yourself these questions:-
What is missing in my life right now?
What do I feel is missing?
What else do I want or need to make my life more complete or fulfilled?
What are the goals that I still have to achieve in order to move forward in my life in the context with which I have defined it?
If I already know my self-defined life purpose, will I say that I have successfully moved forward in realising that purpose more fully?
If I have not yet known my life purpose or do not yet have a clear one, how can I find out and know what my self-defined life purpose is?
Once you have asked yourself these questions, proceed to take a look at your past:-
Had there been any incidents in which I had successfully achieved what I sought out to achieve because I had helped others achieve what they wanted to achieve?
If there were a few of such incidents, how did I help those others who had sought my help in attaining whatever they had wanted to attain?
If there were none, then, perhaps there had been incidents in which I had not succeeded in getting what I wanted because I had refused to help some people who really needed help from me in getting what they wanted, is this true?
If true, how can I make amends by helping those people who had needed my help or helping others who will need my help in the future, to the best of my abilities?
If false, was my success in a particular endeavour in the past due to some selfish manoeuvres or a little trickery on my part? If so, had there been any negative consequences of these unethical actions of mine?

Boat Launching Tips For The Beginning Boater
Preparing For Boat Launch

How Can You Be Too Old For Birthdays?
I don't understand people who think they're too old for birthdays. Don't they know there's lots of people who'd love to be their age? Don't they read the obituaries?
I tried to share my feelings about birthdays with my husband. Of course, any discussion about feelings with a man is a short discussion, but I told him the birthdays of people we love should be special days for us too. We should celebrate having these people in our lives. So far so good; but when I suggested we should celebrate by going out to dinner, John lost touch with his feelings.
I discovered the hard way that giving a surprise party for someone who's stopped celebrating birthdays isn't a good idea. It was like adding fuel to the fire. Worse, it was like adding crow's feet to her eyes.
Having the guests wear black, giving a mortuary gift certificate as a present and putting her cake through the blender weren't good ideas either. Maybe when she said she didn't want cake because she was dieting - again, I shouldn't have reminded her that it's better to give than receive - especially when the cake is chocolate.
Then there was the gift. I'd bought a hand mirror and loosely covered the glass part with plastic wrap. "See", I said, "it's the mirror that's wrinkled - not you".
No more surprise parties, but some people say they don't want presents. John said that once. When he opened his present and saw earrings, he was speechless. I had to explain that since he didn't want anything, I'd thought he'd want me to have something I wanted. Later he was happy with cuff links.

snowmobile-related injury.If an accident does happen, I urge the victim or
witnesses to take note whether they are on a state trail, a public or
private trail, as Michigan's recreation statute provides for governmental
immunity if you are injured on state land while Snowmobiling. While on
trails going through private land, snowmobiles should stay on the trail to
avoid trespassing and to avoid hidden hazards like rocks or stumps under

He asked about the heels up or heels down positions and he said he wasn't getting much volume from his bass drum. He wanted tips on getting started on developing his double bass ability.

Reality check first the reality is that professional drummers, known for their proficiency with double bass drum playing spent years practicing like obsessed maniacs to develop their speed, endurance, and muscles. Unless you are a one-in-a-billion exception then you are not going to get that good in a few weeks. It's gonna take a lot of work.
First get your feet in position a few drummers may disagree, but I contend that the speed and power you are going for, is best achieved using the heel up technique. Although I have seen some double bass drum players use their legs for making the strokes, the more typical technique for fast playing involves the ankles. That's the technique I use, and therefore the one I will discuss.
Volume and Power
Now depending on which drummers we might use as an examples, you need to know that many of them actually get the volume via the sound system. Therefore, for the time being, I suggest that you focus on the playing the patterns and keeping them steady. Volume can be addressed later.

Imagine trying to play fast bass drum patterns with very long beater stroke lengths (the travel distance) plus loose spring tension on the pedals (the way the beater comes back to ready position) plus a very loose bass drum batter head (which has little rebound). That would take some absolutely phenomenal foot work. There are some minor adjustments would make it so much easier.
These adjustments will improve the efficiency of your pedal strokes. The length of the beater stroke has to be long enough to generate solid beater impact, but not necessarily from a ninety degree angle or "all the way" back. I'd start with about a forty-five degree angle stroke and then adjust it to whatever feels best to you. Somewhere is that general range is most likely going to be a good "feel" for you.
Next the pedal spring tension has to be tight enough to return the beater back very quickly to make the next stroke. You need to let the pedal help you. That's why a loose spring tension is just going to feel sluggish and will slow you down rather than helping you. The beater also has to bounce off of the batter head. Not sink into it. So if you are a drummer with a normal bass drum stroke that sinks the beater into the bass drum head (and holds it there) rather than one that lets it rebound off the head (much like a snare drum stroke), then you're going to have to change that style for fast double bass drum patterns. You'll never play thirty-second notes on your bass drums by sinking the beater into the head.
Exercises when you are not at the drum kit Louie Bellson was the first drummer to really bring double bass drum playing to popularity. I had the fortune to meet him, when he was here in Nashville visiting my friend Larrie Londin. We talked about double bass drums and he shared something that, at first, really surprised me. I'll share that here. He told me that one of things that helped him master the feel of playing double bass drums was his ability as a tap dancer. He said that his bass drum playing had a feel similar like he was tap dancing on the pedals. Well, I'm not a tap dancer, but I watched him do it. And it made a lot of sense to me. It was all in his fast moving ankles! Now I point this out, not to suggest that you take tap dance lessons, but to suggest that even when you are not at your drum kit that you can do some exercises that will develop your ankle muscles.
Exercises
You can do this by sitting on a stool or chair (perhaps with something in the seat that helps raise your heels a bit off of the floor-if needed) and, with heels up, start tapping out an eighth note pattern. Focus on keeping the tempo even. If you can't do it at the tempo you first attempt, then just slow the tempo down. Stay with that slower tempo until you can keep the eighth note pattern steady and even. Then speed it up a bit and master that. After all of these years of playing double bass drums, I still do this exercise daily.

The Kitchen Rebellion

These animals rebelled because they wanted equality, or more appropriately, equality with human beings. In the end, they were able to attain victory and decided to run the farm all by themselves.
Today, there is a rebellion that is heating up much like what the animal characters conspired to do in the said book. This uprising is the rebellion of women in society. Today's sexist society has limited women by confining them within the bounds of the kitchen, beauty pageants, and prostitution. These women are often abused physically and are often the butt of many jokes. Society, men in particular, have had their share of nasty jokes pertaining to women.
The society that is dominated by men practices double-standards when it comes to women. For example, if a woman gets drunk and gets raped, she is to be blamed because she asked for it. The women is to be blamed and not the man who cannot and did not even try to control his libido. A wrong deed is wrong no matter how beautiful we present it. In culture, the self-esteem of the typical male is defined by his trophiesthe women he has gone to bed with. The females, on the other hand, are defined by their virginal virtues. Perhaps, calling for equality between men and women is not too much to ask.
According to reports, violence against young girls and women is a major human rights and health concern. Physical, sexual, and psychological abuse takes place in the family, and in the general community. These may include battering, sexual abuse of children, rape and other practices degrading to women. It added that domestic violence is the most common form of violence that is linked to gender. Studies reveal that rape of women, whether attempted or consummated, is mostly perpetrated by a male intimate partner or former-partner. This form of sexual crime and abuse leads to stress and anxiety in the lives of women. The epidemic of sexual abuse had become so alarming that even celebrities had to take a stand to protect the rights of women. One such celebrity was the late Princess Diana, who as some would say, had become an advocate for women's rights and an inspiration to many abused women..including the the sick, the discriminated, and the homeless. She left a legacy that will be remembered for a lifetime. Her life became a channel through which coping with anxiety for women had become easier. Her compassion and good heart made her more beautiful in the eyes of the world. Sadly, she died almost ten years ago without seeing the wide acceptance of women's rights as a cause.

The PDA Substitute - The Apple iPod
You do not need to buy a PDA if you already own an iPod. Simply use your iPod as a PDA. Your iPod can do more than just play music. Your iPod already has the capability of storing such things as your contacts, calendar information, and your notes. Although the iPod is not in the running for PDA of the Year, it can serve as a ready backup for contact and calendar info while you are traveling or if your normal one is broken.
If you have never tried using your iPod as a PDA, you should probably go check out your iPods Extra menu. This Extra menu is where you will find your iPods Clock, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, and of course Games. Besides storing your latest music files, your iPod is able to store phone numbers, addresses, web site URLs, and other important information that you may need, up to 1,000 contacts! If you wish to export this information about your contacts, you can do so via vCard format from Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Palm Desktop, or any email applications that support the vCard.
To start inputting your contact information into your iPod, go to the Extra menu and choose the Contacts options. If you currently do not have any contacts, your iPod will give you instructions on how to do so. If you are going to import your contacts information, your Windows XP needs to recognize your iPod as hard drive before it can start exporting to your iPod.
Once you connect your iPod to your computer, double-click on My Computer and select your iPod icon. If you are using Outlook 2003 or Outlooks Express with iTunes 6, you can go ahead and automatically synchronize your contacts using iTunes and your iPod. Go to the Edit menu and select the Preferences option. Now select the iPod option and the Contacts button. Now choose Outlook or Outlook Express from the Sync Contacts From on the drop down menu. Declare Your Cash
From the 15th June 2007 anyone travelling to or from a country outside the EU has to declare any sums of cash exceeding 10,000 or more (and equivalent in other currency).

Now would HMRC have reasonable grounds to assume that this builder was not going to declare the income, making the transaction illegal and thereby seize the cash, even though tax and NI had already been paid on every penny of the money earned to fill this briefcase?
As it happens, in this case there would have been absolutely nothing to worry about anyway, as the house was in Italy and therefore in the EU!
Actually I don't think there could be anything illegal about paying in cash, the builder is later behaving illegaly in his failure to declare the income.
